Asia Argento grew up in Rome Italy. Her family is a group of actors, and she has also been doing both professions. She made her debut when she was only nine years old, in Sergio Citti's Sogni e bisogni (1985). In 1988 the film of Michele Soavi's The Church was directed by Michele Soavi and she played part of the character Cristina Comencini's Zoo. In the following year, she was Nanni Moretti's daughter in Red Wood Pigeon (1989) (also directed by Moretti). Close Friends (1992) by Michele Placido (both writer and director) is where Asia truly began to begin to take off. The film helped her move beyond the role of cute girls into more complex, mature character. The film was a hit in the Cannes International Film Festival. For Trauma (1993), she made her debut alongside her father, the renowned Italian horror director Dario Argento (her mother is one of the most beloved actors of Argento, Daria Nicolodi, playing an overweight girl who is in search for her parents' killer. The Phantom of the Opera will be her third film with her Father, her first two movies being Trauma & The Stendhal Syndrome. Asia's focused and intense style of acting was also utilized in the film by Giuseppe Piccioni in Condannato a Nozze. Patrice Chereau directed Queen Margot in which she was also in a key role. The actress was again a part of Michel Piccoli on Peter Del Monte's Traveling Companion in 1995, giving her a second David di Donatello role as and a Grolla D'oro. Asia started directing short films in 1994. Two of them were made: Prospettive In 1996, she directed a documentary about her father; and Abel/Asia in 1998, about the cult film director Abel Ferrara. This latter was awarded by the Rome Film Festival. Asia produced her first feature film Scarlet Diva (2000). It was a collaborative effort with Asia and screenwriter/actor Linda McCartney. The movie was released on May 20, 2000, in Italy along with all over the world. It was also released in Brooklyn, New York it won a award at the Williamsburg film festival. Anna Lou, the first of two daughters she has was born in the month of January in 2001. The year 2002 saw Asia in The Red Siren with Jean Marc Barr, and Rob Cohen's Action-Thrille, directed by Vin Diesel. Asia is also the author of a number of stories that have appeared in prestigious magazines.
